The Whitewave Approach

At Whitewave Bodywork, we want our clients to feel like they are being heard, cared for, and given the help they need to alleviate their pain. We strive to provide comprehensive care by listening to each client’s needs and completing a total body evaluation prior to treatment. We don’t want to just treat your pain symptoms and have you coming back the following week with the same problems. We want to help you uncover the cause of those symptoms and create a plan to make lasting change!

Our goal is to educate our clients on their condition, provide them with a helping hand, and empower them to help themselves. We want to encourage people to move their bodies with greater awareness and fluidity. Instead of viewing pain as something to simply be alleviated, our sessions are geared toward improving a person’s understanding of the sensations they are feeling.

Our bodies communicate clearly and specifically, if we are willing to listen. -Shakti Gawain

Pain is one of the body’s ways to communicate. We want to teach you how to listen to your body, understand what it’s saying, and know what to do with that information. It is our intention that this increase in awareness will translate into improved postural alignment, so tasks of everyday living and other lifestyle activities become chances for us to strengthen our bodies instead of break them down.

Since we all need support in attaining our goals, we hope to build a sense of community with our online presence and within our local area so that our patients feel that they are part of a strong healthcare team.

Jennifer Clarkson DPT, L/CNMT, RYT

Jennifer is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Massage Therapist, and Yoga Instructor who provides boutique style therapy in a private setting and works closely with an MD who specializes in functional medicine.

Dr. Jennifer Clarkson strives to provide comprehensive care to aid her clients in achieving optimal wellbeing. Jennifer has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2004. She is certified in Neuromuscular Therapy and Integrative Pregnancy Massage.

As a massage therapist she specialized early in sports massage for the female athlete. She found her niche in finding the source of her clients pain symptoms and utilizing massage and stretching to alleviate those symptoms. She found that the relief her clients felt from manual therapy alone, while effective in the short term, didn’t always last. Her clients would return, with the same pain patterns and depend on her to alleviate those symptoms.

In an attempt to help her clients achieve more long lasting relief and give them the tools to take responsibility for their health, Jennifer decided to further her education by attaining her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015 from Nova Southeastern University. She worked in the outpatient orthopedic setting, for Sarasota Orthopedic Associates, from 2015-2019 while operating Whitewave Bodywork and blending the components of massage and physical therapy.

Along the way, she realized that something was still missing in her work. Much of the physical therapy mindset was so focused on exercises and treatment for one part of the body, and she truly believes that everything is connected.

She had been practicing yoga since 2002 and had been learning about how her body mechanics and posture affected her wellbeing first hand through that practice. She turned to utilizing Yoga based corrective exercises in her treatments and found a more well rounded, thorough approach to healing. She completed her Yoga teacher training at Garden of the Heart Yoga Center in Sarasota with Jaye Martin in 2017.

She now combines her 15 years of experience in massage and bodywork, her 4 years in physical therapy and her 17 years of yoga practice in her treatments to bring to you what she calls: Physical Therapy with heart.
